Newspaper stamps are stamps created for the specific purpose of serving as
postage on newspapers. The first newspaper stamps appeared in around 1851.
The Mercury Stamps did not have a denomination printed on them but was specified
with the color of the stamp - Blue, Yellow, and Rose.
The Red Mercury Stamp was printed in 1856 but was soon replaced in 1858, so
only a few copies still exist today.
